Tottenham eager to re-sign Dennis Cirkin from Sunderland
According to the Sun, Tottenham are eager to re-sign talented 20-year-old defender Dennis Cirkin from Sunderland just a year after letting him go from Hotspur Way.
Cirkin has been very impressive in the Championship ever since his move from Spurs and has caught the eye with his performance for Sunderland. It was rather surprising that the Lilywhites let him go in the first place.
The 20-year-old has quickly established himself as a key player for the Black Cats at this time. He was injured for a bit and he has now made a return to full fitness and Spurs could make a move for him in January.
However, the report also claims that Spurs wanting to re-sign him might be a part of a bigger plan where Tottenham look to sign Cirkin back and then immediately sell him on for a bigger fee to a different rival.
The English left-back, who can also play comfortably as a centre-back and has a contract with Sunderland until 2024 (transfermarkt). For that reason, Spurs could expect the price to be modest.
The England U-20 international has played eight times across all competitions for Sunderland till now. He made 41 appearances last time around in his debut season for the Championship club.
After making the bench for the first time since his return from injury for the clash against Swansea City, Cirkin will be hoping to return to the playing 11 in the Black Cats’ next game against Wigan.
It’s still not evident as to why Spurs left such a talented player leave on a permanent deal in the first place. If they really wanted him to get regular game time, then they could have always loaned him out.
