Tottenham Hotspur offer bittersweet Dejan Kulusevski injury update before Eintracht Frankfurt tie

Tottenham Hotspur attacker Dejan Kulusevski has returned to training after missing our last three games, but he won’t be able to face Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday night at N17.

That is according to Antonio Conte, with the Italian manager confirming that the club don’t want to take risks with the Sweden international on his road to full recovery (h/t Evening Standard):

“Deki [Kulusevski] is almost ready. Yesterday, he had an MRI [scan] and the MRI was really, really positive. But I spoke with the doctors and they said tomorrow we can have five per cent risk.”

Dejan Kulusevski had an amazing start to life in England, registering five goals and eight assists in 16 league games during his debut season at Spurs.

“I don’t want to take risks because Deki is an important player for us and it’d be stupid to risk him and lose him for the rest of the nine games [before the World Cup].”

Spurs fans would be thanking their lucky stars that the club signed Richarlison from Everton this summer. Without the Brazil international, it’s hard to imagine Conte being this relaxed about our frontline before a big clash at home.

Spurs know that a defeat to the Germans can really complicate matters. A win against Olympique de Marseille, a loss against Sporting CP, and a 0-0 draw in Germany is not the worst start in the world but it’s not ideal either.

Lucas Moura hasn’t been seen in action since his eight-minute cameo against Chelsea in our league draw in August. Conte could start Harry Kane, Richarlison, and Son Heung-min together in attack.

Or, he has the option to use the 3-5-2 formation once again – which worked to great effect in our 1-0 win against Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this month. We do have important games lined up just after the game against Die Adler.
