Antonio Conte confirms Lucas Moura will make the bench for Tottenham vs Eintracht Frankfurt
Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the Champions League encounter with Eintracht Frankfurt as quoted by Football. London, Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has confirmed that Spurs star Lucas Moura will make the bench against the German club despite having only a couple of training sessions till now.
Moura has played just two games for Spurs in the Premier League this season with injuries plaguing him since the start. None of these games came from the start though and the Brazilian’s return will be a welcome boost.
The 30-year-old joined Spurs from Paris Saint-German in 2018 and has been a key player off the bench for the Lilywhites all these years. His most memorable performance in a Spurs shirt came in the Champions League semi-final in Ajax.
An electric winger, Moura has a lot of flair in him and often turns out to be a very tricky player for opposition defences to face. The 30-year-old has predominantly played on the wing for much of his career and sometimes even as the striker.
However, Antonio Conte envisioned a completely different role for the Brazilian in the pre-season. The Italian tactician fielded Moura as the right wing-back throughout the preparation phase and to be fair to the former PSG man, he performed pretty well.
This is not the first time that Conte has transformed a winger into a wing-back. The former Inter Milan manager famously did it with Victor Moses during his time at Chelsea and even Ivan Perisic when the duo worked in Italy.
Speaking about the player’s return to injury, Conte revealed that Moura will make the bench despite having very few training sessions.
“Lucas Moura is available despite having only two or three training sessions, but tomorrow he is with us on the bench”
Emerson Royal is likely to start in the wing-back role tonight against Frankfurt although Matt Doherty did himself absolutely no harm with his performance against Brighton. Conte might choose not to risk the Irish defender in such quick succession though.

Lucas Moura can be an option off the bench but it seems unlikely that the Italian will call the Brazilian up today. Regardless, it is good news that the 30-year-old is back. At the very least, it gives us more options.
