Rio Ferdinand believes Harry Kane would be ruing not joining Manchester City
Rio Ferdinand claims that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane would be ‘sick’ of watching Erling Haaland at Manchester City this season.
The England international was heavily linked with a move to the Manchester-based club last season. Pep Guardiola saw four bids turn down by Daniel Levy and they finally pulled out as they could not meet the £150 million valuation.
Pep waited a year and signed Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer for a cut-fee price of £51 million and the Norwegian has proven to be a bargain for the club.
Haaland has already scored 15 goals in nine league games so far, as compared to eight goals in nine league games for Kane. But things could have been a lot different for both of them this season.
Had the 29-year-old England international gotten his move last season, City would not have likely bought in the Norwegian striker this season. It would have been Kane making all the headlines that the former Dortmund man is making.
Speaking on his YouTube channel FIVE (h/t Daily Mail), Ferdinand claimed that the England captain would be ‘sick’ of watching the 22-year-old enjoy all the success.
“If I were City before Haaland came, I would have taken Kane. Kane’s a goal scorer, he’s a killer, he’s as cold as you get. In any era he scores goals. I think he would have been brilliant at Man City. It was there for the taking, I don’t know how it happened from all parties. He must be so sick. If I’m Kane I’m sitting there going wild, I know he could end up with a trophy this year.”
Kane has established himself as a club legend at the north London club and one of the best strikers in the game. The 29-year-old has scored a whopping 256 goals for the Lilywhites in 398 games in all competitions.
But he is yet to win a trophy with the club. This is something that has always been a black dot in his glorious career at the club. He came the closest to winning one in 2019 when his side lost 2-0 in the Champions League final to Liverpool.

Ferdinand is not wrong in his assessment. There is no doubt that the England international would have trophies at City, but ultimately he decided to stay. This season under Antonio Conte the player has a chance to end his and the club’s drought and the fans will hope for it to happen.
