Glen Hoddle praises Tottenham star Eric Dier for keeping his cool against Frankfurt

Glen Hoddle has praised Eric Dier for not letting an early error ruin his game in his side’s 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday.

The England centre-back was at fault for the visitors’ opening goal. He lost possession and the German team capitalised from it which led to Daichi Kamada opening the scoring.

However, Spurs did turn the game around and scored three goals in the first half. Now, in an interview quoted in the Daily Mail, the former Spurs midfielder praised Dier for keeping his cool.

“It’s a terrible mistake from Dier. [Jesper] Lindstrom has got to take a lot of credit. He’s pressed the ball, he’s on the side. It hasn’t affected his game. What I love about Dier, he’s been able to play some semi-risky passes and not freeze. He’s played his way through it.”

Dier played the opening 78 minutes of the game and was then replaced by Davinson Sanchez. There was a feeling that the 28-year-old might lose his cool in some tackle, but that did not happen.

The England international has been crucial for Antonio Conte this season. He has started in all 13 games for the north London club this season in all competitions.

Spurs showed great resilience to win the three points. Despite a late second goal from the visitors and Harry Kane missing his penalty in the 90th minute, the players held their nerves and walked away with a deserved victory.

Dier is unlikely to lose his place in the team for the mistake. The centre-back will hope to keep a clean sheet in their next game against Everton at home this Saturday.
