Juventus willing to ‘sacrifice’ Weston McKennie to fund Leandro Paredes transfer amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest
Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a boost in their interest in Weston McKennie as Juventus are willing to ‘sacrifice’ the American, according to Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness (h/t Express).
The 24-year-old could be forced to leave as the Old Lady look to fund the permanent transfer of summer 2022 arrival Leandro Paredes from Paris Saint-Germain. And Spurs’ director of football, Fabio Paratici, has an eye on the USMNT star.
Tottenham were interested in signing McKennie in the recent transfer window. However, a deal did not end up materialising. The latest development presents another opportunity for the North London side to pursue the midfielder.
The 24-year-old joined Juventus from German club Schalke in the 2020/21 season. Unfortunately, the American has failed to cement his place in the Serie A giants’ starting lineup.
In the Bundesliga, the USMNT star showed great potential. However, in Italy, the youngster has failed to live up to his expectations as of now. The versatile midfielder has played a big part under Max Allegri this season, but the Bianconeri have struggled.
Currently, Juventus sit eighth in Serie A. The Italian giants are also on the verge of exiting the group stage of the Champions League, having lost to Maccabi Haifa recently.
As for Tottenham, while we have had a great start to the 2022/23 campaign under Antonio Conte, fans have not been convinced by the performances. The North London side have been too defensive at times.
Spurs signed Yves Bissouma in the recent transfer window. However, the midfielder has failed to live up to expectations. We also have the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp to count on.
