Tottenham Hotspur looking to beat Chelsea for Alessandro Bastoni
Tottenham Hotspur are set to swoop in for Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni and beat rivals, Chelsea, to his signature.
According to Inter Live (h/t Express), Spurs are set to bid around £43 million to prise the Italian away from San Siro. The 23-year-old sees his current contract expire in 2024.
Spurs were interested in the centre-back this summer too but were turned away by the Nerazzurri in the summer. Antonio Conte has not given up in his pursuit and seems will try again next summer.
Bastoni joined Inter in 2017 from Atalanta BC. The player spent the next two seasons on loan at his former club and Parma. Conte was the one who handed the Italian his Inter debut in 2019.
The two shared a very good bond, with the coach trusting the centre-back to start games for him. The 23-year-old was a regular and played a crucial role as the Nerazzurri won the Scudetto in 2021 under Conte.
Spurs signed Clement Lenglet from Barcelona on a season-long loan this summer. While he has been playing very well for the club, it looks highly unlikely that the club will look to make him a permanent player next season.
Conte could do with a defender like Bastoni in his ranks. The 23-year-old has established himself as a regular for both club and country and his fine form has bought the attention of a whole host of clubs.
