Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte offers injury update on Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg and Cristian Romero
Speaking in a post-match press conference as quoted by Evening Standard, Antonio Conte offered an injury update on Tottenham Hotspur stars Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg and Christian Romero ahead of the Sporting CP clash midweek.
Tottenham lost 1-2 to Newcastle United in the Premier League last night, a result that saw the Magpies enter the top four. It was a huge blow for the Lilywhites who could not continue the momentum that they had built up for so long.
It was a poor first-half display from Conte’s men which cost them the game against Eddie Howe’s team. They did improve in the second half but it all came a little too late as Harry Kane was able to pull back a solitary goal for the North London club.
Two players who have been regular starters for Antonio Conte this season but were forced to miss the clash against Howe’s side were Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg and Christian Romero and both proved to be huge misses.
The duo are among Spurs’ best players this season and Conte will want them to return as soon as possible. However, he was not very sure of when the duo will return and if they will be available for Sporting CP.
“If you ask me at this moment, I don’t have an answer because I don’t know the way they recover from this fatigue and this situation. if the player doesn’t want to play, I don’t force the player.”
Spurs have been far from convincing this season with every good performance being coupled with a less-than-impressive one. They need to start hitting some consistency if they want to compete for trophies.
After all the signings that Spurs made this season, it was highly expected that Conte’s men will compete for trophies on all fronts. However, despite being third in the Premier League table, they have a lot of work to do.
Injuries have certainly not helped their cause with a number of key players like Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison getting injured at the wrong time and Conte has been forced to adapt.
