Manchester United could battle Tottenham Hotspur for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan
Manchester United could target Mike Maignan of AC Milan, who has also been on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur.
This is according to Italian outlet Calciostyle (h/t Manchester Evening News), which gives an insight into United’s hunt for a new goalkeeper. The 27-year-old could be a very smart signing for Spurs if they are the ones who can prise him away from the San Siro.
He is experienced, of a good age profile, and has the ability to succeed someone with the ability and class of Hugo Lloris. The 35-year-old showed his worth by keeping the scoreline at just 2-0 in our loss against Manchester United at Old Trafford earlier this month.
However, he is 35 and on a contract that expires in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt). Names like Illan Meslier, Jan Oblak, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen have been mentioned.
Maignan is just the latest world-class name that has seemingly been added to that list. The France international moved to Milan just last year from LOS Lille Metropole and has done well to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is now at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Maignan is on a deal that expires in the summer of 2026. If we want to beat Manchester United to his signature – granted they do show an interest in him along with us – then it will be important for us to sell our project well.
Firstly, we have to be in the UEFA Champions League so that the Frenchman doesn’t miss out on what he is currently getting at Milan. Secondly, a
first-team position should be vacant for him because it would be a surprise to see him spend a year or so on the bench in the peak of his career.More Tottenham Hotspur News

And thirdly, the promise of building something big together. According to Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports, Spurs told potential summer signings this year that they aim to usurp Manchester City and Liverpool in the coming years.
That won’t be a bad pitch to make if Maignan has our ear.
