Rodrigo Bentancur offers much-needed praise for under-fire Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma
As mentioned in Tottenham Hotspur’s matchday programme for the game against Newcastle United (h/t Football.London), Rodrigo Bentancur had some praise reserved for summer signing Yves Bissouma.
The Mali international joined Spurs from Brighton & Hove Albion this summer for a fee of £25million. He hasn’t had the best time since coming here.
Earlier this season, manager Antonio Conte stated that Bissouma was perhaps the only one who was having trouble adjusting to his tactical instructions on the training ground and on the pitch.
As a result, we did not see a lot of the former LOSC Lille Metropole midfielder on the pitch for a while. He started in just one out of his first eight Premier League games with us.
However, it seems that Conte has begun trusting Bissouma more as the number of league starts has increased to three in our last four matches. According to Bentancur, Bissouma has been ‘great’ since his arrival and settled in well with the team.
“It feels very natural to work with him [Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg]. The same goes for Skipp and Bissouma, who has been great since he arrived. He’s settled into the group really well.”
This would offer much confidence to Spurs fans about Bissouma. He started in our 2-1 loss against Newcastle alongside Bentancur and Oliver Skipp.
While Bentancur is pleased with Bissouma, some aren’t. Jamie O’Hara is one of them. The former Spurs player claimed that he wasn’t impressed by Ivan Perisic and the ex-Brighton midfielder after the loss against the Toons.

This is Bissouma’s first season at a truly top club, with all due respect to the Seagulls and Les Dogues. Working under a world-class manager like Conte is also something that Bissouma is coming to grips with and we can only expect the 26-year-old to go from strength to strength now.
