Transfer News: Ben Jacobs claims several clubs interested in James Maddison amid Tottenham Hotspur’s interest
CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that there are a number of clubs interested in signing James Maddison, with the midfielder being on Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United’s radar.
Speaking on Give Me Sport (h/t Leicestershire Live), Jacobs revealed that there are more clubs interested in the 25-year-old apart from Spurs and Newcastle.
“There’s far more than just those two, as you would expect given his current form. There’s lots of clubs in the Premier League in particular really looking very seriously at James Maddison because he’s proving week on week what he can offer to a top club.”
The Magpies fell £10 million short of Leicester City’s £60 million valuation of the English midfielder in the summer. It is expected they will try again in January but are likely to face competition from Tottenham.

Maddison has been very impressive for the Foxes this season, despite his team’s poor form in the league this season. The 25-year-old has scored six goals in 11 appearances so far in all competitions.
It is not surprising to see Spurs interested in the attacking midfielder. While Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur have been fantastic for us in the middle of the park this season, the club does not have any attacking midfielders in the squad.
Should Antonio Conte be able to sign Maddison, he could deploy him in the midfield or even up-front in the attack. The 25-year-old would also help in adding depth to the squad, something that will be needed for the second half of the season.

Whether Spurs can land the midfielder in January remains to be seen. The midfielder has just over 18 months left in his current contract, although the Foxes are hoping to tie him down to a new deal.
