Transfer News: Glenn Hoddle believes Tottenham Hotspur should target James Maddison
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Glenn Hoddle believes that James Maddison is the type of player every Spurs fan has been crying out for and urged Antonio Conte to target him.
Leicester City have been struggling in the league this season, however the 25-year-old is in the form of his life. So far, the midfielder has scored six goals in 10 league games for the Foxes.
And now speaking exclusively on talkSPORT, former Spurs midfielder Hoddle believes adding Maddison to the squad would increase creativity.
“That’s what every Spurs fan is crying out for. Antonio wants to play two holding players and go with his firepower up front. But I think they need some creativity – because at the moment it’s down to Kane dropping in and creating. f you had [Christian] Eriksen, as an example… or Maddison, I love him. Someone like that, who comes in off the lines… you’ve only got to look at the best teams in the country and they’ve got those players.”
Hoddle is not wrong in his assessment. Harry Kane has usually been the most creative player for Spurs. The England captain usually drops deep to play some fantastic balls to his partner in crime Son Heung-min.
While Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur are not very consistent in front of the goal, their performance in the midfield has no critics. They have been excellent in the middle of the park this season.
Spurs don’t have any attacking midfielders in their squad. By adding the in-form Maddison, it would no doubt make our attack one of the fiercest in the Premier League.
But it won’t be easy to convince the Foxes to let him go. The 25-year-old has been their best player and they would likely do everything to keep him from departing. But the midfielder’s contract expires in 2024 (transfermarkt).
