Cristian Stellini confirms Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte will be in stadium after touchline ban for Marseille clash
Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Cristian Stellini has confirmed Antonio Conte will be sitting in the stadium after his touchline ban for the game against Olympique Marseille. Spurs take on the French outfit on Tuesday (1 November) in the Champions League.
Unfortunately, the North London side will be without their Italian manager in the dugout after his red card against Sporting CP. Our head coach was given his marching orders after the controversial VAR decision at the end of the 1-1 draw against the Portuguese club.
Speaking to the media (h/t football.london) ahead of the game at Orange Velodrome, Stellini revealed Conte would be with his brother and technical coach Gianluca Conte inside the stadium. The Italian manager is not allowed to have any communication with the team.
“He will sit next to Gianluca for sure. I don’t know where. He will be here at the stadium. He will work with us until we arrive here and then we have to stop the communication and then he will stay close to Gianluca.”
Tottenham take on Marseille in the final group game of this season’s UCL. We need to avoid defeat to ensure a place in the knockout rounds of the tournament.
The Ligue 1 outfit are currently at the bottom of Group D. However, only two points separate the French side and Spurs, who sit in first place.
The North London side could have ensured a knockout berth had Harry Kane’s late strike against Sporting CP stood. The decision drew the ire of Conte at the time and his remonstration led to his suspension.
The manager’s absence from the dugout will evidently have some effect on the team. However, Stellini has been with Conte through thick and thin during his time with Juventus and Inter. Thus, some fans are not as worried about it.
Tottenham have everything in their hands in France. We need to start on the front foot from the get-go. Spurs have had sluggish starts to games in the current campaign and have often conceded first. That could pose a problem if Marseille were to go ahead in their own stadium.
