Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur will allow Bryan Gil to leave on loan in January but on one condition

Tottenham Hotspur will allow Bryan Gil to leave on loan in the January transfer window only if they can find an alternative to take his place in the team – possibly someone as Dejan Kulusevski’s backup – as per Alasdair Gold on his official YouTube channel. He said:

“From what I understand, they will allow him [Bryan Gil] to go out on loan if they can get a perfect kind of alternative player, who is more of a direct alternative to [Dejan] Kulusevski.”

Gil came close to leaving Spurs in the summer transfer window but was not allowed to join Valencia as the Lilyhwites could not find an alternative. That move has proven to be a smart one.

Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison have been sidelined with their respective injuries for several weeks now. Lucas Moura only recently returned from a fitness issue while Son Heung-min fractured an eye socket in our 2-1 win against Olympique de Marseille earlier this week.

Gil has only been used for 42 minutes spread across five games across competitions for Spurs this season. He has, however, looked lively and dynamic whenever he has been brought on.

The 21-year-old was signed last summer from Sevilla as a player for the future. It was clear he would need to work his physique a bit to get used to the football being played in the Premier League.

At least he has some of Conte’s trust if the Italian manager kept him instead of letting him leave and join Valencia on a loan for the second time this year. However, it doesn’t seem the best for his development.

Despite our injuries, we haven’t used Gil properly in a front three and instead went with 3-5-2 on many occasions. It’s evident that the Spaniard isn’t seen as a regular starter for Tottenham and if that is the case, it is not a wise call keeping him here.

Spurs are a club big enough to bring in a quality first-team winger who would be happy to play as a backup for one of our first-team attackers. Steven Bergwijn’s move to Ajax this summer now seems like a move we could have done without.
