Tottenham Hotspur target Yannick Carrasco transfer-listed by Atletico Madrid
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur could have an opportunity to sign Atletico Madrid star Yannick Carrasco in the upcoming 2023 January transfer window.
The 29-year-old is currently in his second spell at the Spanish giants and has been a key player for them over the years. In 237 appearances for the Rojiblancos, Carrasco has scored 39 goals and assisted 41 more.
The Belgian international has struggled to find his form this season and has a mere two goals and assists apiece in 18 appearances across all competitions. It was his missed stoppage time penalty against Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Champions League on matchday five that consigned Atletico to being eliminated in the group stages.
The failure to progress in Europe’s top competition has forced a rethink at the Wanda Metropolitano, with four players being put up for sale. Carrasco is among them and could provide Tottenham with the opportunity to make fresh overtures.
The North Londoners were previously interested in the winger’s services but were unable to see the move through. It could prove to be second time lucky for Antonio Conte and co.
With Atletico now needing over £60m to balance the books, Tottenham could put in a decent offer for Carrasco. Should Atletico accept it, a deal could be done as soon as January, providing Spurs with an experienced addition ahead of the second half of the campaign.
Los Colchoneros have also put Joao Felix, Thomas Lemar and Rodrigo de Paul on the transfer list as a way of raising cash.
Primarily a left-winger, Carrasco is versatile enough to also play several other positions in attack and midfield. This augurs well for Tottenham who could do with proven quality additions in key areas of the pitch.
Antonio Conte has consistently stressed the need for reinforcements and in Carrasco, they can land a proven talent. At 29, the winger is already in his prime and can do a job from the word go at Tottenham.
