Tottenham Hotspur’s Lucas Moura and Emerson Royal left out of Brazil squad; Richarlison included
Tottenham Hotspur’s Richarlison will get to live his FIFA World Cup dream when he travels with Brazil to Qatar later this month.
He has been included in Brazil’s final 26-man squad for the tournament. Lucas Moura and Emerson Royal have not been included in the team, which doesn’t come as a big surprise.
The former Barcelona right-back hasn’t been at the top of his game despite being a regular under manager Antonio Conte. Lucas, meanwhile, has clearly struggled for playing time.
Despite Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Son Heung-min’s recent injury struggles, Lucas has often been utilised from the bench. The former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) winger is himself coming on the back of an injury that he suffered earlier this season.
Richarlison to realise World Cup dream with Brazil
A surprise inclusion in the Brazil team is Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus, who was notably left out of the Selecao in September. A notable exclusion is that of Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino.
Brazil have Serbia, Switzerland, and Cameroon to play in their World Cup group. Their campaign commences on 24 November against the Serbians.
It remains to be seen if Richarlison is match-fit by then to make the starting XI. He has been missing from action for Spurs after his injury in our 2-0 league win against Everton earlier this season.
Richy has 17 goals in 38 senior appearances for Brazil. He has represented them at two Copa America tournaments – in 2019 and 2021.
