Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur earmark Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford as Hugo Lloris replacement
Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte could make a move for Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to replace Hugo Lloris in the near future.
That’s according to Graeme Bailey, who told TeamTalk (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“Hugo Lloris has a deal until 2024, but it is highly unlikely he will be Tottenham number one after this season. He has been up and down and it is understood Tottenham are looking for his long-term replacement. And we can reveal that a number of options are in the Premier League.
“They have been linked to the likes of Jordan Pickford, Robert Sanchez and Illan Meslier, and these are the options for them. They really like Sanchez at Brighton – but it is likely that won’t be until the end of the season.”
Robert Sanchez of Brighton & Hove Albion and Illan Meslier of Leeds United are the other two options. The time that Spurs have to think about Lloris’ successor is upon us.
What should Tottenham Hotspur do?
He has a contract until the summer of 2024 but it remains to be seen if the 35-year-old still has another season in him. Meslier has shown at Leeds that he can be a future No. 1 for France as well as a top Premier League club.
Sanchez is pretty good as well. The 24-year-old Spaniard is pretty underrated and could be a financially sound option for Spurs to consider – if the Seagulls comply.
Then there is Pickford. English, playing for Everton, proven at the top stage, and on a contract that expires only in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt). He doesn’t have the widest reach in the world neither is he the best with his feet.
But he is a solid option to have and is a vocal presence at the back. One thing is for sure. Spurs scouted Lloris well and didn’t have to think about another No. 1 goalie for a decade.

Hence, we cannot be frugal if the ideal replacement becomes available. The three names mentioned above are all good and have the potential to be world-class goalies at Spurs – it now depends on us with regard to who we want to pursue with tunnel vision.
