Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur told the price tag for Juventus and USMNT star Weston McKennie

Tottenham Hotspur will have to spend around €25-30 million for Juventus and USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie in January, according to Italian publication Calciomercato (h/t Football. London).

Juventus could look to sell the 24-year-old in the winter transfer window and now Spurs know the amount they will have to pay to secure the midfielder’s signature.

McKennie joined the Old Lady in 2020 from FC Schalke 04 but spent that season on loan there. He moved to Turin in 2021 but is yet to hit his full potential.

The midfielder has featured in 16 games so far for his side in all competitions, scoring three goals in the process. He also made his World Cup debut with USMNT as he started in the 1-1 draw against Wales last Tuesday.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur have been the go-to midfielders for Antonio Conte this season. The duo have simply been fantastic for us in the middle of the park.

Yves Bissouma, who was signed in the summer, has failed to provide much competition to the duo. He has also struggled when he has played for us, leaving Conte worried about his midfield should either one of Hojbjerg or Bentancur get injured.

With the second half of the season really congested with fixtures, players will need rest and squad depth will be important. As such having a midfielder like McKennie could make life a bit easier for the coach.

The price which Juventus are demanding is also decent, given the age and ceiling of the player. McKennie could play an important role for his country in the World Cup and decent run there could have Spurs knocking on his door in January.

He could be the player we need to increase the quality of our squad. McKennie can also notably play as a right midfielder and while we don’t have a shortage of right wing-backs on paper, McKennie can be a useful option for that position as well if we need more control down that side in possession.
