Tottenham Hotspur could use Croatia international Ivan Perisic to convince Josko Gvardiol
According to Italian news outlet Tuttomercatoweb as quoted by Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur could use secret weapon Ivan Perisic to try and hijack the deal and try to sign the impressive Croatia defender, Josko Gvardiol.
Gvardiol who plays his football for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga is one of the highly-rated young defenders going around. His performances have caught the eye of Premier League clubs with both Chelsea and Tottenham interested.
Gvardiol’s name has been doing the rounds for quite some time now and with Antonio Conte looking to reinforce his defence, the Croatian seemed to be the earmarked option to help him in that regard.
The 20-year-old centre-back is not expected to come cheap. RB Leipzig are expected to demand in the region of £70million to part ways with the prized asset and Tottenham must be willing to pay that.
To facilitate a move for the talented defender though, Tottenham seem to have a trick up their sleeve to help them land the 20-year-old though and that is the presence of Ivan Perisic who is trying his best to convince his national teammate to make the move to N17.
One thing that could help Spurs land Gvardiol ahead of Chelsea is his asking price. The Blues spent a lot of money to reinforce their defence in the summer by signing Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly and might not go all out to sign another player for the same position.
Gvardiol offers a lot of versatility due to his ability to play at centre-back and left-back and would be perfect for the Ben Davies position in Antonio Conte’s system. The RB Leipzig man is showing his worth for his nation in the World Cup.
The 20-year-old has played every minute for Croatia at the World Cup and has recorded 2.5 interceptions, 1.5 tackles and 4 clearances per game. He looks rock solid at the back and has a great future in the game.
