Spurs Transfer News: Chelsea looking at the possibility to sign Tottenham midfield target James Maddison
Chelsea are looking at the possibility of signing Tottenham Hotspur transfer target and Leicester City midfielder James Maddison, as per CBS journalist Ben Jacobs via GiveMeSport (h/t LeicesterLive)
Newcastle United were heavily linked with a move for the playmaker in the summer transfer window but had a bid of 50million Pounds turned down as the Foxes wanted more. Now, the Blues have seemingly entered the fray for the 26-year-old England international.
Maddison has added to his reputation this season. Not only is he a regular starter under Brendan Rodgers and is arguably the best player in a struggling Leicester side in the past few months, he is also with England in Qatar.
What should Spurs do?
The former Norwich City man made manager Gareth Southgate’s 26-man England squad for the tournament. But both Chelsea and Tottenham may have to wait a while if they want to get their hands on him.
Maddison apparently wants to stay with his current club until the end of the campaign. It is also unlikely that he renews his contract at the King Power Stadium, which expires in the summer of 2024.
If he doesn’t pen a new deal with the Foxes, then his current team could live to regret the decision not to sell him to Newcastle when they had the chance. After all, it would be a surprise if they still have the courage to demand 60million Pounds next summer.

Chelsea have Mason Mount, who can play as a left winger as well as an attacking playmaker, but Spurs lack that profile. For that reason, it would be very smart if Spurs’ board brings Maddison to N17 and gives manager Antonio Conte a potent weapon in the attacking third from midfield.
