Spurs News: Tottenham Hotspur told to sign Denzel Dumfries as Emerson Royal upgrade
Former Tottenham Hotspur and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has urged Spurs to seal the deal for Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries as an upgrade on Emerson Royal.
The former Barcelona right-back continues to be our first-choice option down the flank. But Emerson has failed to win over the majority of the fanbase.
His end product in the final third seems unfinished while he seems to have a mistake in him when defending. While he is still just 23 and can improve with time, Dumfries would be an instant upgrade and a player who is at the peak of his powers.
Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Metro) claim that Manchester United, Chelsea, and Spurs could have to part ways with 50million Pounds if they want to sign the 26-year-old right-back.
Dumfries has been in sensational form for the Netherlands at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He has played every single minute of their games in Qatar and is expected to start again when Holland take on Argentina in the quarter-finals.
And Robinson believes the former PSV Eindhoven star is the ideal player that Conte should be going for given the formation that he deploys at Spurs. He exclusively told Football Insider:
“At this moment in time they are quite weak in that position when you think of Emerson Royal, I do not think he ticks all the boxes. Doherty has been very up and down with injuries…”
Robinson recognises that Dumfries won’t be cheap. He added:
“He is going to cost a lot of money there is no doubting that. When you see him for the national team you can see he fits into the style Conte wants to play. So I think he would be an ideal player to come in, if Daniel Levy loosens the purse strings again.”

The Netherlands star is on a contract that expires in the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt). This could make it difficult for teams to sign him on a cut-price deal because Inter would know the hype around their right-back and if they do have to sell him, then I Nerazzurri will want to squeeze every penny they can out of this transfer.
