Tottenham Hotspur well placed to sign FC Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie
According to Diario AS (h/t Football London), Tottenham Hotspur are well placed to sign Franck Kessie from FC Barcelona with Antonio Conte keen to add more options to his midfield.
Kessie only moved to Barcelona this summer after choosing not to extend his contract at AC Milan but has failed to replicate the form shown at San Siro with most of his appearances coming from the bench.
Barcelona manager Xavi prefers a youthful set-up to his midfield hence the likes of Gavi, Pedri and Frenkie de Jong alongside Sergio Busquets all being ahead of the Ivorian in the pecking order.
Hence, there are speculations that Kessie could leave the Catalan club only one year after making the switch and Spurs are currently best positioned for his signature. Kessie has not been able to adjust to his new surroundings in the manner that his representatives and also the club would have manifested.
However, that does not take away the fact that he was one of the best midfielders in Serie A during his spell at AC Milan and his stock would have definitely risen had he stayed in Italy. As the saying goes that one man’s loss is another’s gain and this is where Spurs can capitalise on a great opportunity at hand.
Kessie, at 25 years of age, is entering the prime stage of his career and has all the qualities needed to succeed in an Antonio Conte squad – from helping his team in defence to launching counter-attacks from deep.
Strong, skilful and aggressive are some of the many qualities that the Ivorian possesses and his signing would definitely add more depth and quality to the squad which could allow Conte to tinker with his approach to different games.
