International: Kylian Mbappe’s reaction to Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane missing his crucial penalty

Tottenham Hotspur and England international Harry Kane made all the headlines for the wrong reasons as he missed from the spot to help his side equalise against France in the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup.

Les Blues took the lead through a screamer from Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni. Kane equalised for the Three Lions from the spot as the English piled up the pressure. However, former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud gave his side the lead again in the 78th minute.

Kane had the chance to equalise the game for the second time after the Three Lions were awarded a second spot kick of the game. To everyone’s surprise, the 29-year-old who scored the first fired his shot above the crossbar.

France and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star Kylian Mbappe had a brutal reaction to the England captain missing from the spot as seen below:

The Spurs talisman is one of the most prolific penalty-takers on the continent and hardly anyone would have expected him to miss. Kane has a wonderful record from the spot, scoring 58 goals from there so far in his playing career, for both club and country.

It was really surprising to see the talisman missing such a crucial spot-kick. Maybe the pressure got to him or maybe his club team-mate and France captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris played better mind games than the 2-year-old.

Kane enjoyed a decent tournament this year, scoring two and assisting three in five appearances for his country. The only positive that a Spurs fan can take from this is that their striker will have a bit more time to relax and get recharged for a hectic second half to the season.

Lloris will look to lead his country to back-to-back World Cup wins. The French will take on Morocco this Wednesday (December 14) in the semi-finals of the tournament.

As for Kane, it will be heart-breaking for the England skipper to return home now. Despite his miss, he is unlikely to be removed from penalty duties back at Tottenham.

He has had rancid luck in big games. This could make or break him now. It could give him another big push to try his best and win his first career trophy as a Spurs player.

Or, who knows, it may nudge him in the direction of taking an ‘easy way’ out and filling his trophy cabinet by joining a ‘big’ team. Who knows..
