Jordan Henderson gives verdict on Tottenham star Harry Kane’s penalty miss for England vs France
Liverpool and England midfielder Jordan Henderson has given his verdict on Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane missing his penalty against France.
Les Bleus took the lead twice – first via Aurelien Tchouameni and then through Oliver Giroud 12 minutes from time. Harry Kane’s penalty kick was sandwiched between those two goals.
He was given a chance to score his second goal from 12 yards away after Theo Hernandez’s terrible challenge on Mason Mount. Kane, however, skied the kick in the 84th minute.
England could not score another goal and lost 2-1 in the quarter-finals. France now have a date with Morocco in the semi-finals.
What next for Kane?
Kane has been a trusted goal-scorer for England – in fact, he is now their all-time highest goal-scorer, tied with Way Rooney at 53 goals -which should be enough to shield him from a fair bit of criticism.
Of course, there will be those who point their fingers at him. His teammate Henderson is, of course, not going to be one of them.
After the full-time whistle, he told ITV (h/t beIN Sports):
“We know how many penalties Harry has scored for us, how many goals he has contributed to even get us here. He will be stronger for this in the future. He is a world-class striker and our captain. He will bounce back.”
It’s a classy message from the Liverpool captain. Kane should not keep his head down after the miss. The miss will stick with him for a while.
