Tottenham Hotspur Transfer News: Newcastle lead the race for Spurs and PSG target Milan Skriniar
Newcastle United are leading the race for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Milan Skriniar, as per Italian outlet Calciomercato [h/t Shields Gazette].
PSG’s interest in Skriniar is now well-known and they apparently even had a 70million Euros bid turned down for the Inter Milan defender in the summer, as per L’Equipe (h/t Shields Gazette). Spurs have also been tracking his situation at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium.
The Lilywhites can do with an addition in central defence given Ben Davies has continued to play out of position as a left-sided centre-back for virtually the entirety of manager Antonio Conte’s reign at N17.
Eric Dier and Cristian Romero are two centre-backs the Italian manager trusts. But apart from them, Davinson Sanchez, Japhet Tanganga, and on-loan Joe Rodon are yet to win his complete trust.
Threat for Spurs?
Even the fans would believe that the trio could be upgraded on. At 27, Skriniar is in his peak years as a footballer and has shown for the past several years that he is one of the best defenders in European football.
But the Magpies and PSG aren’t to be taken lightly. They are two teams that haven’t been shy to flex their financial muscles in recent windows and their uber-rich owners have the capability to seal big-money deals.
He will be an instant starter in the Magpies’ squad without a doubt given his ability and status. PSG have Presnel Kimpembe and Marquinhos as their star central defenders but 36-year-old Sergio Ramos will need to be replaced in the future.
