Paul Robinson believes that it will be ‘huge’ for Tottenham Hotspur if Harry Kane signs a new deal
Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson has claimed that it would be a ‘huge’ deal if striker Harry Kane signs a new deal with the north London club.
The England captain sees his current contract expire in 2024 and it is unclear if the 29-year-old will put pen to paper a new deal. Such uncertainty has seen the striker linked to Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in recent times.
Now, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Robinson claimed that it would be a ‘huge’ deal for the north London side if their talisman signs a new deal with them.
“It would be huge for Spurs if Kane signed a new deal. He made his intentions pretty clear in the summer before last. It looked as if there was a good chance he would leave. But, since Antonio Conte’s arrival things appear to have changed. I think he can see that the team is heading in the right direction.”
“I think he believes there is now a real possibility of winning silverware at Spurs and I agree. Hopefully he puts pen to paper on that new contract and we can see him in a Spurs shirt for many more years. He’s been incredible for the club.”
Kane came close to leaving Spurs last summer with Manchester City very much interested in him. However, after much speculation, nothing came off and the 29-year-old ultimately stayed put.
The Three Lions international has been in terrific form this season for the north London club, scoring 12 goals in 15 league games so far. He has been crucial for Antonio Conte this season, with the club sitting fourth on the table and finishing top of their Champions League group.
He was also important for his country in this year’s World Cup, having led them till the quarter-finals. The 29-year-old skied his second penalty during the game against France which ultimately resulted in him crashing out after losing 2-1.
While Kane has had a fantastic career with the north London club so far, he is yet to win a trophy with them. This is something that has been in debate much but this season under Conte Spurs looks like they can break this drought.
