Arsenal could sign Tottenham Hotspur summer target and Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo
North London rivals Arsenal are interested in Tottenham Hotspur summer 2022 target and Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo, according to Italian outlet Radio Radio (h/t football.london).
The 23-year-old is in the final year of his current contract and Mikel Arteta’s team are eyeing his signature. Currently, the Giallorossi have not held any talks in recent months to extend the playmaker’s stay in Rome.
As a result, the Gunners are monitoring Zaniolo’s situation. They could sign him from Roma for £21.8 million. However, our fierce rivals also have the option to sign him on a free transfer in the summer of 2023.
Spurs are keen on adding a creative midfielder to Antonio Conte’s squad. We were close to securing a deal for Zaniolo in the recent transfer window. Unfortunately, a deal did not end up materialising.
The 23-year-old signed for Roma in the summer of 2018 from Inter Milan. Since then, the youngster has shown a lot of promise in the yellow and red shirt.
In the current campaign, under Jose Mourinho, the attacking midfielder has made 14 appearances in all competitions. He has found the back of the net twice and assisted three goals.
While Zaniolo has shown promise over the years, injuries have hampered his career. The youngster has struggled with staying fit. He missed the entirety of the 2020/21 campaign due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Tottenham currently have a number of players in the middle of the park. However, apart from Rodrigo Bentacur, our other midfield players like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Yves Bissouma and Olver Skipp are more defensive-minded.
