Fabrizio Romano rubbishes Nicolo Zaniolo links to Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has cleared the air around Nicolo Zaniolo’s links to Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks.
Italian outlet Radio Radio (h/t Football.London) claimed Arsenal could make a move for the Italian playmaker before the end of the season but would face competition from Tottenham. The former Inter Milan playmaker was linked with a move to Spurs this summer.
His contract expires at the end of the season, after which he could leave as a free agent. This would also allow clubs to negotiate a potential Bosman transfer with him in January.
A potential fee of €25million has been mentioned, which would seem like a reasonable amount for a 23-year-old destined to be a world-class player. But according to Romano, there hasn’t ever been anything concrete when it comes to the AS Roma star moving to England.
He exclusively told CaughtOffside:
“I’m aware there’s been some speculation about Nicolo Zaniolo again, and it’s a slightly surprising story as there are no negotiations between Arsenal and Zaniolo as of now.”
“He has never been close to a Premier League move. Tottenham links were there in the past because of Fabio Paratici who’s always been following Zaniolo since the beginning of his career, but nothing more concrete than that.”
Zaniolo’s situation at the Stadio Olimpico is one to keep an eye out on. We can kill multiple birds with one stone, and for a fee that would be reasonable (if not completely free), considering his versatility.
He can play anywhere across the frontline and is largely seen playing as an attacking playmaker. The Italian is one of the most hyped players in his age group and he would be a useful addition to manager Antonio Conte’s midfield and attacking set-up.

Arsenal would be a strong threat though. Romano’s comments make it seem like Nicolo Zaniolo isn’t really linked with a serious move to England but if he does come here, Arsenal and Spurs could be the two clubs suited to his development.
