Arsenal and Atletico Madrid join Tottenham Hotspur in Alexis Mac Allister transfer race
Tottenham Hotspur were showing interest in Brighton & Hove Albion’s Alexis Mac Allister before he travelled with Argentina to the 2022 FIFA World Cup last month, as per Mirror.
But now, they are set to face competition from two European giants, if they retain their interest in the freshly crowned World Cup winner. As per AS (h/t Mirror), Arsenal and Atletico Madrid are showing interest in the 23-year-old.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone associated with Spurs or tracking the Argentina international. He made a big impression at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Not only did he start in the biggest match in world football, he provided the assist for Angel di Maria’s goal which made it 2-0 on the night to La Albiceleste. Brighton could find it hard to hold onto him.
After all, they aren’t a giant in the same sense that Atletico Madrid, Tottenham, or Arsenal are. These clubs are constantly in, or competiting to be in European football every season.
But this would serve as a lesson to any team that was interested in him this summer and either opted to wait or didn’t go in for him. His stocks have risen and there would be teams taking note of the playmaker.
Manager Mikel Arteta has shown that he trusts young players and Mac Allister would know that. But Tottenham should make it clear that the Brighton star would add a profile that our team currently lacks – an attacking midfielder who likes to push forward.
If manager Antonio Conte can make space for a player like Mac Allister, who has freedom to attack rather than being pinned back and defend like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur are most of the times, then this is a deal we must conclude by all means.

But we have to be careful not to be drawn into a deal that doesn’t make financial sense for us just because the player has an elevated popularity after the World Cup win.
