Spurs Transfer News: Antonio Conte wants Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie at Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte likes Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie and wants him at N17 in the near future, as per Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.

The 20-year-old centre-back is a well known name for folks who watch the Bundesliga. He has scored thrice and made one assist in 53 games competitions for the German side since moving from CA Talleres in the summer of 2021.

But he arrived on the radars of the global football fanbase when he made an appearance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Ecuador. He featured in all three of his team’s Group A games but could not help them go through to the knockout rounds.

Spurs can use a player like him in their defence. The left-footed defender would be ideal to solidify the left-sided centre-half position that has been handed to Ben Davies for nearly a year now.

A must-sign prospect

The Welshman has done but he is not a natural centre-back. When your backs are against the wall and there is a lead to protect, having three natural centre-backs in the formation that Conte plays helps, for sure.

It just remains to be seen how highly Hincapie is valued by Die Schworzroten. He still has three and a half years left on his contract (Transfermarkt), and that’s never good news for any pursuing party.

More years on the deal means more control over the player’s future in the hands of the parent club. This is a deal we have to secure as soon as possible – if not Hincapie, then we have to get in a central defender that can slot into our starting XI and is of a strong age profile.

We can’t keep replying on Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga in case Eric Dier and Cristian Romero aren’t available. Even if everyone is fit and available, we can use a strong centre-back to fit into our back three, stat.
