Tottenham Hotspur make €15m offer to sign Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie

Tottenham Hotspur have apparently made an offer of just over 15million Euros for Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie, as per Spanish outlet SPORT.

The Ivory Coast midfielder joined the Catalan giants this summer on a free transfer from AC Milan. On paper, Spurs’ offer would seem strange considering Kessie has just joined Barca.

But from a financial perspective, it could make sense for the recipient club. Barcelona’s financial struggles are well documented in recent seasons while they now have the financial blow of a premature UEFA Champions League exit to deal with.

For them, this could mean a straight profit. Well, apart from the wages they have paid Kessie for the first half of this season.

A wise move for Spurs

For us, it would mean adding a quality central midfielder who can offer serious competition to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur. Yves Bissouma has failed to capture the imagination of Spurs fans since his move from Brighton and Hove Albion this summer.

Oliver Skipp, for now, remains a rookie. There is no certainty if Barcelona will allow Kessie to leave the club or if the player himself would want to leave one of Europe’s biggest teams.

That would especially be the case considering the fact that manager Antonio Conte, unless he considers a switch to a three-man midfield, may not be able to guarantee a starting berth to the former AC Milan star.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

Why would he take the pain of switching countries and leagues just to swap benches? He has featured in just 485 minutes of football for his club this season and if he moves to Spurs, it’s hard to see if that number will improve much given Bentacur and Hojbjerg’s fitness and form.
