Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur leading the race to sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat
According to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur are in ‘pole position’ to sign Fiorentina and Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
The 26-year-old has emerged as a top target for the north London side recently and his recent World Cup performances have only helped enhance his reputation and fame. Several other clubs have also taken up an interest in the holding midfielder ever since.
Amrabat was key for the Atlas Lions in their fairy-tale run of reaching the semi-finals of the World Cup in Qatar. They lost 2-0 to France and finished fourth, having lost the third-place play-off to Croatia 2-1. The 26-year-old featured in all the games for his side.
The holding midfielder’s performances did not go unnoticed with the likes of Liverpool and Atletico Madrid taking up an interest in him. However, it is now claimed that Spurs are leading the race for his signature.
Spurs need to add another midfielder in their squad. While Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur have been phenomenal for us so far, the likes of Pape Matar Sarr, Oliver Skipp and Yves Bissouma have failed to provide tough competition.
Such lack of competition has led to Antonio Conte looking for another midfielder in the market. Amrabat has been phenomenal so far this season and would make an instant upgrade to any team looking to reinforce their midfield.
However, Fiorentina are believed to be reluctant to allow him to leave and it could cost around £40 million to be able to secure his signature. Such an amount could be a steal for a player like Amrabat’s calibre and it will be wise for the north London club to loosen their purse strings for him.

The north London side have found huge success in signing players from Italy, with the likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Bentancur and Ivan Perisic all playing huge roles this season. Fans will hope the 26-year-old can follow in the same path should he arrive next month.
