Journo reveals interest from clubs in Tottenham Hotspur star Emerson Royal
Clubs from Spain and Italy are interested in Tottenham Hotspur right-back Emerson Royal, according to Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold. The names weren’t mentioned but one can presume they would be from La Liga and Serie A, respectively.
He was asked if the Brazilian full-back is attracting interest from elsewhere now that the January transfer window is open. The journo replied:
“As for Emerson, there’s interest from clubs in both Spain and Italy about signing Emerson in a loan-to-buy deal during the January transfer window, but that interest is yet to materialise into a concrete offer to Tottenham.”
He spoke of interest from Spanish and Italian clubs wanting a potential loan-to-buy offer for the former Barcelona right-back. However, he added that he isn’t interested in leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“The player is not particularly keen to move on and it will be interesting to see how the dynamic works if Spurs really push for a new right wing-back.”
Later in the same answer, Gold spoke of the abuse that Emerson got from fans recently. The Brazilian continues to divide opinions. He has some good days but has shown that he has errors in his game.
Many deem that the 23-year-old isn’t the way forward for us down the right-wing-back slot. There have been claims that Spurs are interested in Sporting CP right-back Pedro Porro, which will really complicate matters.
There is no way having four first-team right-backs will be remotely feasible. Matt Doherty and Djed Spence have failed to displace Emerson, which speaks a lot about where they stand in manager Antonio Conte’s eyes.

The best would be to leave nothing to debate – to go out and sign a world-class right-back and solidify that position for a long time. Then, it would perhaps be wiser for us to let two right-backs leave to balance out things. Some won’t mind if Emerson is one of them.
