Tottenham Hotspur looking for a suitable club to loan out Djed Spence
According to SkySports reporter Michael Bridge (h/t Football. London), Tottenham Hotspur are looking for a suitable club to loan out talented young right-back Djed Spence.
Spence’s time at N17 has not really gone according to plan. Most people expected the talented defender to almost immediately break into the team and catch the Premier League by storm but that has been far from the truth.
Spence joined Tottenham from Middlesborough after a season of impressive displays with Nottingham Forest. Many thought he was Premier League-ready but Antonio Conte had other plans.
The Italian manager has put the talented youngster through a tough period of adaptation. The 22-year-old has not really been given a chance at all with Conte claiming that he might not be ready for the first team yet.
Even the lack of form of the other options in that position in Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty has not helped Spence’s cause with the duo still preferred to the 22-year-old even if their displays have not been convincing.
Michael Bridge has now claimed that Tottenham are looking at loaning out Spence and are waiting to figure out which the right club would be.
“I think we will be talking about [Spence] potentially the last day or two of the window”
It makes sense for Tottenham to take this decision and loan out Spence. If Conte thinks he is not good enough for the first team, then it makes sense to give him the chance to develop elsewhere.
Warming the benches is going to be detrimental to the development of Spence. If he can go out on loan to another Premier League club and get accustomed to playing here, Spurs might get a well-developed player for future seasons.
