Tottenham Hotspur ‘transfer target’ Ismael Bennacer signs new AC Milan contract until 2027
Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Ismael Bennacer has signed a new contract with AC Milan, as per Football.London.
The news, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano on his Twitter account, confirms that the Algeria international has signed a new contract until the summer of 2027. That would be a hammer blow to Spurs’ interest in the player.
Now that he has signed a new deal, AC Milan would have massive control over his future. Even if he is sold, they would naturally demand a bigger fee than before his contract extension.
Hence, this is a name we can forget about – at least for now. Bennacer is one of the very first names on manager Stefano Piolo’s teamsheet, proven by the fact that he has played in 24 games for them across competitions this campaign.
If we did manage to sign him, he would have been a neat addition. The former Arsenal youth academy product is now 25 and in the prime years of his career with a long road still ahead of him.
He is a central midfielder with a focus on the defensive side of things – ideal for the double pivot that manager Antonio Conte usually deploys here. But then again, a move to sign him would have been tough.
His history with Arsenal aside, why would he want a move to a club where he may not be a regular starter? Unless we wanted to shift to a three-man midfield permanently, Bennacer would have struggled for regular starts here.
If he did carve out a niche for himself here, then whose expense would it have come at? Rodrigo Bentancur, or Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg? They have been very consistent for us.

Hence, this is a transfer that now seems infeasible due to several factors – especially his contract. It’s best to get a quality midfielder who would be happy to be a squad player here. Easier said than done, though.
