Tottenham Hotspur target Weston McKennie rejects move to Aston Villa
According to Corriere dello Sport (h/t Football. London), Tottenham Hotspur target Weston McKennie has rejected a move to Aston Villa in favour of a move to either Spurs or Chelsea.
McKennie is a favourite of Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte with the duo keen on bringing the talented USMNT star to N17. He has been in a good moment both for Juventus and the national team in recent times.
McKennie had a great World Cup with his national team. He along with Yunus Musah and Tyler Adams ran the show for the Americans from midfield in their impressive World Cup campaign.
The 24-year-old midfield ace is very highly rated at Juventus. However, his form has been rather inconsistent in the past and there are times when the talented USMNT star has really frustrated the Italian club in the past.
However, the recent times have been really promising for McKennie. He would be a great acquisition for Spurs as he would add something that we do not have. The 24-year-old can be the creative presence we are crying out for.
Tottenham have quite a few midfielders in their roster. The likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp, Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr all compete for the same positions in the line-up.
However, with the exception of Bentancur to an extent, all the other names in the list are functional midfielders and do not add much creative presence. Even the Uruguayan has his limitations in this regard.
Thus, Tottenham need to add someone who can be creative in their play and add a different dimension to the midfield. McKennie fits the bill perfectly and it is not a surprise that Conte appreciates him.
