Tottenham Hotspur to battle Manchester United and Chelsea for Brentford’s David Raya
Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Manchester United are all ‘likely’ to battle amongst themselves for the chance to sign David Raya in the summer, claims the Guardian.
The 27-year-old is seemingly in the best years of his playing career and is a full international for Spain. He was part of manager Luis Enrique’s 26-man squad that travelled to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Moreover, he has become one of the most trusted custodians in the Premier League at Brentford. The Bees have been a refreshing addition to the top flight under Thomas Frank, and Raya is one of his most trusted starters.
Tottenham, Chelsea, and Manchester United are apparently trying to sign the Spaniard and a transfer battle could ensue at the end of the season. Arsenal held an interest in him a couple of years ago, but the Gunners have now moved on with Aaron Ramsdale between the sticks.
Spurs need him more than Chelsea and Man United
He has, however, just 18 months left on his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium (Transfermarkt). It is supposedly an unlikely prospect of him extending his deal with the Bees, which could mean his suitors can hope to sign him for a reasonable price in the future.
We are in urgent need of a replacement for Hugo Lloris. The 36-year-old has been error-prone recently and is set to become a free agent in the summer of 2024.
He has perhaps stayed here for one season too many. Fraser Forster, who was signed from Southampton as a free agent last year, can’t be expected to fill that position.
Raya, who spent seven years at Blackburn Rovers before leaving for Brentford in the summer of 2019, has Premier League experience and is of a strong age profile. To travel to a World Cup means that he has quality appreciated by more than just his club manager.
