Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Stefan Posch from Hoffenheim
Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Stefan Posch, who is currently playing for Bologna in Serie A on loan from TSG Hoffenheim 1899.
This is according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, who claim that sporting director Fabio Paratici is interested in adding Posch to manager Antonio Conte’s backline at N17.
The 25-year-old has 20 caps for the Austrian national team and has been playing as a full-back as well as centre-back for Bologna. He could be signed for around 10-12million Euros.
He has even managed to score twice and provide an assist in 11 Serie A games this season. Spurs could, however, face competition from Juventus for the versatile defender.
What to make of this?
Posch could be a smart signing, but as a complementary addition in defence alongside a truly world-class name. Spurs have been linked with the likes of Josko Gvardiol and Milan Skriniar of RB Leipzig and Inter Milan, respectively.
Those are the kind of names and talent fans would want us to go after given the clear need of world-class additions in defence. Following the 4-2 defeat against Manchester City, Conte stated that Spurs are defending like a relegation team.
That is true, and a way to fix that would be to add quality names in defence. It is worth mentioning that our defence has been woeful in recent weeks even when Cristian Romero, Ben Davies, and Eric Dier have been fit.
The problem is that we can’t drop any of them even if they aren’t performing well because Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga aren’t much of an upgrade on them. Hence, Posch could be a neat little addition to the team.
