Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher makes big Harry Kane claim after 266th Tottenham Hotspur goal
Harry Kane became Tottenham Hotspur’s joint all-time top-scorer across competitions after his solitary goal against Fulham on Monday night (23 January) was enough to hand Spurs all three points.
The game was largely drab for the first 45 minutes but Kane changed the scoreline with a moment of magic in first-half stoppage time. A simple pass from Son Heung-min found its way to Kane’s feet.
Just outside the box, Kane hit an unstoppable shot into goalkeeper Bernd Leno’s left-hand corner. The former Arsenal shot-stopper was rooted to his spot.
He now has 266 goals across competitions for the Lilywhites – tied with the great Jimmy Greaves. Given the 29-year-old has 18 months left on his current deal (Transfermarkt), he will surely break that record with ease.
Kane on form
He has 16 goals in the league this season. Perhaps people are too focused on Erling Haaland’s start to life at Manchester City to notice that yet again, Kane is among the goals. In every season since the 2014-15 campaign, he has scored at least 24 goals across competitions.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has taken note of that. The Reds legend has gone as far as to say that Harry Kane will go down as Tottenham’s greatest ever player.
In comments aired on Sky Sports, via BBC’s live blog for the game, Carragher said:
“Year after year Harry Kane delivers. He’s always there scoring 25 or 30 goals a season. When you think of the greats of the Premier League, the First Division before that, he’s one of the best we’ve seen. At the end of his career, he’ll go down as Tottenham’s greatest-ever player.”
He isn’t wrong. In arguably the most competitive era in qualitative terms in English football, with world-class opponents, and teammates that don’t quite match up to his level the majority of times, Kane has done exceedingly well.

His record-equalling goal came after some good news regarding his contract extension earlier today. The Evening Standard claim that he is open to extending his deal at N17 beyond the end of next season.
Now, let’s hope that Kane makes the record his own when we take on Preston North End in the FA Cup on 28 January.
