Leeds United make first contact for Tottenham Hotspur target Weston McKennie
According to Football. London, Leeds United have made their first contract for Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Weston McKennie from Juventus.
Spurs have been long-time admirers of the player and have been looking to bring the USMNT star to N17. Signing him looks all more probable now but Leeds making the first move is not good for Tottenham.
Juventus find themselves in a deep mess. They recently got docked 15 points in the Serie A table which has left them 10th in the table and it seems unlikely as things stand that they would get European football for next season.
This could force the Italian giants into selling some of their important assets and McKennie is exactly one of them. If Tottenham actually make a serious attempt, they could sign him in this window itself.
McKennie is a player who would benefit Tottenham and Antonio Conte a lot. The US international oozes quality and has already shown in his relatively young career that he can run a midfield as he did so often at the World Cup.
Right now, with the exception of Rodrigo Bentancur to an extent, the Spurs midfield is extremely functional. This has meant that all the creative burden is on Harry Kane to drop deep and help.
Signing someone like the Juventus man is just what Tottenham need to take some of this weight off Kane’s shoulder. McKennie can and should be the creative midfielder that the club are craving for.
Despite a few indifferent seasons at Juventus, McKennie has turned it around considerably well this time around. He has also shown his quality whilst playing for the national team alongside Tyler Adams and Yunus Musah.

Only time will tell if McKennie becomes a Tottenham player after all. We must look to beat Leeds to the signature of the player.
