Tottenham Hotspur reject Brentford’s loan bid for fullback Djed Spence
According to Football London, Tottenham Hotspur have rejected a loan bid from Brentford for right-back Djed Spence as they do not want to sell the player permanently.
Brentford’s loan bid proposal came with a clause which included an obligation to buy something which is not in line with the plans Spurs have for the player.
Signed from Middlesborough after a spectacular season with Nottingham Forest on loan on their road to Premier League promotion, Spence has seen limited minutes under Antonio Conte with Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal being preferred currently.
With the rumoured signing of Pedro Porro from Sporting CP, it would make it even tougher for Spence to get good minutes under his belt and hence a loan move does make sense for all parties involved.
The player needs exposure to playing regularly in a top-flight but Spurs are wary of the investment that they have made, which according to them, is for the future.
At just 22 years of age, he still has a lot of time to stack a claim of starting games for Tottenham and Conte must have seen something in training to not being able to fully trust the England U-21 international.
With less than a week to go until the January transfer window, it is one deal which definitely needs to be kept an eye on and we could see Brentford return with a different proposal that suits the needs of all parties.

German outfit Bayer Leverkusen and French Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyon are two other sides which have shown interest in the player.
Hopefully, the club is able to find the best solution for the player which would be to get a club where he plays regularly and get him to a position where he could compete for a starting claim next season.
