Djed Spence ‘expected’ to leave Tottenham Hotspur on loan ahead of January transfer window deadline day
Tottenham Hotspur star Djed Spence is ‘expected’ to leave the club on loan ahead of the ongoing transfer windows deadline day, according to the PA news agency via the Independent.
Several teams in the Premier League are interested in acquiring the right-back’s services. However, Spurs do not want a buy option to be included in any deal.
The 22-year-old has hardly been handed any opportunities by Antonio Conte. Cristian Stellini, the North London side’s assistant manager, stated that the youngster has not been consistent enough in training.
Spence signed for Tottenham in the summer of 2022 from Middlesbrough. In the previous campaign, the youngster was one of the best players in the Championship while on loan with Nottingham Forest.
However, the 22-year-old has found life difficult at Spurs. The defender is yet to start a game for the North London side. This season, the England U21 international has made just six appearances in all competitions, most of them coming off the bench in the final minutes of matches.
Over the years, Tottenham have spent a lot of money to secure the right-back position. We bought Matt Doherty in the summer of 2020 after his impressive spell with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Unfortunately, the Ireland international was unable to make a mark at Spurs. Subsequently, Emerson Royal was added to the team from Barcelona. However, the Brazil international has been underwhelming in North London as well.
Now, Spence is suffering the same fate. It has been a bit surprising that the youngster has not been given many chances, considering the form Emerson and Doherty have been in.

If Conte does not intend to use the 22-year-old, it makes no sense for him to rot on the bench. Therefore, a loan move away is the best option for both parties at the moment.
