Leeds ‘convinced’ they will beat Tottenham Hotspur in race for Juventus star Weston McKennie
Leeds United are ‘convinced’ they are leading the race for Weston McKennie, who is on the radar of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
This is according to Sky Sports journalist Luca Cilli (h/t Express), who claims that the Whites have submitted an offer of £24.5million despite Juventus’ asking price of £30.7m.
Leeds are confident they don’t face much competition from either Tottenham or Arsenal. The Lilywhites have already signed Arnaut Danjuma on loan and are close to signing Pedro Porro from Sporting CP.
Hopefully, once we sign the Spain international, we can focus some of our resources on McKennie – and if not him, then another central midfielder.
Not a bad option
The USMNT star is a versatile player who can play centrally as well as a right midfielder. With just Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur as our first-choice options, Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp can use some competition.
It’s true that Leeds would provide him with the best chance with first-team playing time. They don’t have much quality in central midfield and the Juventus star would be an upgrade on the majority of the options they have, at least on paper.
But Spurs should be able to put forth an attractive project and proposal if they are serious about signing the former Schalke 04 star. Juve have had 15 points deducted this season and could be in need of making sales to balance their books.

It wouldn’t be a shabby option to enter the race for McKennie and put forward an offer neither the player nor the club can’t refuse.
