Tottenham Hotspur coach Cristian Stellini gives promising Richarlison injury update

Cristian Stellini has reassured Tottenham Hotspur fans that Richarlison hasn’t suffered a major injury setback.

The Brazil international was sidelined from action after suffering an injury at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He made a brief return to action recently, with cameos in our losses in the Premier League against Manchester City and Arsenal, and in the 1-0 win against Fulham.

However, he was missing from the matchday squad when we beat Preston North End by a 3-0 margin at Deepdale this weekend. Fans would have been worried, of course.

But assistant manager Cristian Stellini, who was on media duty instead of manager Antonio Conte, has stated that Richarlison hasn’t suffered a major setback. He said after the full-time whistle (h/t Athletic) [Subscription Required]:

“He has a small problem in the last few days. We tried to recover him, but it was not a good idea. We had just Harry Kane sick and so it was not a good idea to risk him. We will find Richarlison next week.”

Good news

When asked if the setback was related to his previous hamstring injury, the Italian tactician added:

“No, no, no, it was a different injury. He recovered well. He has a small problem in his adductor, but nothing serious”

Phew. We can’t afford to have any more injuries up front if we really want to make the top four. Arnaut Danjuma’s addition will surely make things a bit easier in case the main men are sidelined.

But Richarlison and Harry Kane are both key components of Conte’s attack. They carry a goal threat that keeps us in the game no matter what.

Hopefully, Kane, who was an unused substitute against Preston, and Richarlison, are both back in the starting XI, or at least in the squad to face Manchester City on 5 February in the Premier League at N17.

It was a smart move by Spurs to rest the star duo, considering we made easy work of Preston on the day. Hopefully, they would have used this time to get back to full fitness.
