Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur move to Piero Hincapie after Pedro Porro twist
Tottenham Hotspur are now targeting a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie after a move for Pedro Porro dramatically seemed to have collapsed with Sporting CP, as per BILD (h/t Mirror).
According to the Athletic (Subscription Required), everything was in place for the 23-year-old Spain international to move to Spurs. However, Sporting reneged on the agreed-upon terms and wanted to renegotiate.
Tottenham were angry at what transpired and backed out from the deal. They have now submitted an offer of £22million for Hincapie, who represents Ecuador at the international level.
This would have been a blow for the player, who could have been looking to find a way back to the Premier League after being permanently sold by Manchester City last summer. However, it seems that the teams have reached an agreement in recent hours to complete a deal in dramatic fashion.
This is according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, who confirms of a late agreement and a scheduled medical for the Sporting right-back.
Amateur from Sporting
Spurs were right to leave the table in case Sporting offended the terms of the agreement. They were perhaps looking to take advantage of us with deadline day so close and in the end, it wouldn’t have been a surprise if they were made to come back to negotiate with us.
A move for Hincapie makes sense but then again, he isn’t a right-back. The 21-year-old can play as a left-sided centre-back in our back three, which is another problem area in our squad.
It seemed that the club would have had to make do with Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty, with Englishman Djed Spence apparently out on loan for the rest of the season after seeing just four cameo substitute appearances in the Premier League this season under manager Antonio Conte.
This is why it was important to seal Porro’s arrival. It wouldn’t be a surprise if it was the player who initiated talks to make his club re-enter negotiations if it was Spurs who walked away from the table.

This was certainly strange but Tottenham tried to make the best of it. The funds that were going to be utilised in the transfer of Porro were to be used elsewhere as a means of strengthening the squad. Let’s hope Leverkusen budge and that the aforementioned offer for Hincapie stands as well despite Porro’s imminent arrival.
