Tottenham Hotspur slammed by Alasdair Gold for decision to loan out Bryan Gil to Sevilla
Tottenham Hotspur allowed Bryan Gil to join Sevilla on loan until the end of the season after signing Arnaut Danjuma from Villarreal on a temporary loan deal.
Despite numerous injury issues in our attack, most notably to Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison over the course of the season, Gil managed just 311 minutes of senior football since last summer.
Those are poor numbers for a 21-year-old who came to Spurs amidst much hype in the summer of 2021 from Sevilla in a deal which also saw Erik Lamela go the other way. Much has been expected of him.
Nothing has been delivered so far. He had a couple of promising cameos since the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but they have been performances that offer promise for the future rather than tangible results in the present.
Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold has been left irritated by Spurs’ decision to loan him out to Sevilla. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said on Gold and Guest talk Tottenham:
“This deal irritates me more than probably any of the transfers that happened in the window because I think Bryan Gil is going to be such a super little player. I really think he is. I don’t think he’s done anything in the recent weeks to justify him kind of being pushed out the door either…”
What else could we have done? There is no space for sentiments. We had four fit, world-class attackers before the January transfer window began and we added Arnaut Danjuma to that.
Lucas Moura’s return from the sidelines will make it six, at least until the end of the campaign. There was simply no point in keeping Gil here for making him warm the bench or handing him meaningless cameos.

Gil was evidently happy at rejoining Sevilla and hopefully, a return to the Spanish club comes with playing time and experience which benefits us in the long run.
