Tottenham Hotspur interested in signing former Chelsea defender Marc Guehi

Tottenham Hotspur could make a summer move for Crystal Palace defender and former Chelsea starlet Marc Guehi, as per the Evening Standard.

The English centre-back moved to Selhurst Park in the summer of 2021 for a fee of 18 million Pounds. He was seemingly deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

But the Blues were mindful to insert a clause that will allow them to match any bid made by another suitor if they wanted to enter the race for him. Chelsea are also believed to have a sell-on clause in the contract.

Guehi’s contract runs until the summer of 2026 and he is a very important part of manager Patrick Vieira’s starting XI. The former Swansea centre-back has played in 23 games across competitions this term.

Guehi to Spurs?

Now, from a layman’s perspective, one would imagine that Palace will at least want to make a profit on Guehi. Moreover, he has progressed a lot under Vieira and has played for England in the meantime.

Add to that his age and the fact that he is a homegrown player. Spurs are supposedly in the market for a new centre-back considering Clement Lenglet’s loan spell from Barcelona ends this summer.

Davinson Sanchez’s future at N17 is also supposedly uncertain after failing to play regularly under manager Antonio Conte. Guehi’s stocks seem like they are high at the moment.

But Spurs would be smart to try to sign him and table an offer nonetheless. Palace’s response to it will be crucial but on paper, Guehi to Spurs could be a shrewd acquisition.

That is, of course, if we plan to sign another centre-back alongside him. We need a world-class defender and someone to also add depth to the backline which currently sees left-back Ben Davies playing as a left-sided centre-half.
