Tottenham Hotspur handed major Yves Bissouma injury blow ahead of Leicester City showdown

After Hugo Lloris’ injury, Tottenham Hotspur are set to be without Yves Bissouma for an extended period of time.

According to the Mirror, the 26-year-old Mali international suffered a stress fracture in his left ankle and will require surgery for the same on Friday (10 February). He was spotted leaving the training ground on crutches on Thursday.

This certainly comes as a massive blow for us, considering Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is suspended for the first-leg UEFA Champions League round-of-16 clash against AC Milan.

Bissouma has already struggled to justify the 25 million Pounds price tag that he carried when he arrived at Spurs from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer. He has played in 20 league games this term.

Bissouma out for a lengthy period of time

However, that has amounted to just 808 minutes in the Premier League so far. Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur are clearly manager Antonio Conte’s first-choice picks in midfield.

Bissouma’s loss could be Oliver Skip and Pape Matar Sarr’s gain. The two young midfielders can hope for an increased role in the coming weeks, especially against I Rossoneri in the first-leg clash on 16 February.

We have to be really careful now in training sessions. Another injury to a first-team midfielder could really cripple us in this area of the pitch.

Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele, and Harry Winks are all currently out on loan. Of course, the players would have wanted more playing time and perhaps wanted to play elsewhere to continue their development.

But at times such as this, it really makes you wonder if letting Lo Celso join Villarreal, in particular, until the summer was an error on our part.
