Newcastle United want Tottenham Hotspur target Piero Hincapie
According to Football Insider (h/t Chronicle Live), Newcastle United are set to rival Tottenham Hotspur for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie. The Ecuadorian international is a rock-solid and tenacious centre-back, who can be a long-term alternative to Fabian Schar.
At just 21 years of age, Hincapie has the potential to become a top-class centre-back and has been compared to Tottenham’s Cristian Romero. The Argentinian World Cup winner has been one of the club’s best players.
Tottenham have been searching for a reliable partner for Romero in central defence and have been linked with several players in recent months. Hincapie is on their radar if they are willing to spend around £50 million for his services.
Bayer Leverkusen are unlikely to let Hincapie leave on the cheap, as he is one of their most prized assets. The German outfit are demanding top dollar for the young defender, who is relatively unproven at the highest level.
Newcastle United, on the other hand, are looking to bolster their backline ahead of the new season and Hincapie could be an ideal addition to their squad. The Magpies have had one of the best defences this season.
Hincapie had a World Cup to remember with Ecuador where along with Moises Caicedo, Perves Estupinian and Enner Valencia, he was one of the South American nation’s most important players.
Being left-footed, the Ecuadorian would be perfect for the club. It will not be easy to convince the German club to sell him here. However, a deal can be done provided we offer the right price for the player.

Let’s see if Hincapie makes his way to the Premier League next season and if it is to N17. It should be a good addition but it will not be easy.
