Tottenham Hotspur News: Fabrizio Romano clears the air about Harry Kane to Manchester United rumors
Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has been linked with Manchester United recently. But according to Fabrizio Romano, they are not actively pursuing him.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the Italian transfer expert shared:
“I want to clarify something because I get asked many questions on this from Manchester United fans and Tottenham fans on Harry Kane. We had rumours in January about Manchester United already working on a Harry Kane deal.
“What I can say is Manchester United never had any contact with Kane. His family, his brother are taking care of Kane’s future, so Manchester United are not in the process to sign him.
“The feeling inside Tottenham is that they will do their best to keep Kane at the club; to negotiate a new contract soon and keep him at the club. At the moment, they are not thinking of selling one of their best players in history to Manchester United.”
What next for Kane?
Kane could become a free agent in the summer of 2024 if he doesn’t put pen to paper on a new deal with the Lilywhites. This is obviously a situation we would want to avoid with our club’s all-time top goalscorer.
At 29, he isn’t done at the top level. Kane is yet to win a trophy and Spurs, this season, haven’t looked like they are good enough to seriously contend for titles.
The 1-0 UEFA Champions League first-leg round-of-16 loss against AC Milan was a reminder of how far we are in terms of competing for the biggest trophies. Hence, any new offer should compensate the England international handsomely.
Even then, there won’t be any guarantee if the Englishman accepts the deal, but the best we can do is put forth a huge contract and hope it entices him. It’s good for us that the links to Manchester United aren’t serious right now.
If they are pushed away from the picture, then Spurs fans can be hopeful that Kane stays at N17 if he really is enamoured by the idea of breaking Alan Shearer’s record of 260 Premier League goals.
